Cornell
Cooperative Extension of Ulster County is coordinating
the development of a Stream Management Plan for the upper
Esopus Creek (above the Ashokan Reservoir) in the Towns of
Olive and Shandaken.
The
Upper Esopus Creek Draft Management Plan project involves
local citizens and leaders in prioritizing actions and recommendations
for long-term stewardship of the stream corridor. It will
summarize the benefits and problems in the upper Esopus Creek
corridor and inform the public about the stream’s conditions.
The project also includes opportunities to actively participate
in stream-based volunteer projects, a speakers series, and
other public events.
The planning process will be guided by a Project Advisory
Council composed of Town officials, streamside landowners,
representatives of the angling and whitewater recreation community,
local, county, and state agencies and not-for-profits, and
others.
