The overall goal of the Ashokan Watershed Program is to restore stream system stability and ecologic integrity while sustaining viable communities in the watershed.
Specifically the program seeks to:
- Reduce flooding and erosion hazards while improving stream system stability in the Ashokan Reservoir watershed.
- Provide information to stakeholders about water quality issues in the Ashokan Reservoir and encourage them to improve and protect water quality
- Provide information to stakeholders on the status of in-stream and streamside (riparian) ecosystem condition and encourage them to improve and protect the stream corridors in the Ashokan Reservoir watershed.
- Provide information to stakeholders on recreational and other public uses of the streams within the Ashokan Reservoir watershed and encourage a viable recreation based local economy that is compatible with the overall goals of the program.
- Work with government agencies and landowners to have a coordinated and consistent approach to stream management activities that uses existing resources and information
- Develop and implement an education and outreach program that achieves the goals listed above.
